When set to "AUTO" the switch will automatically switch to the last video signal that is input. For instance, suppose you have your satellite receiver and your DVD connected to the switch...and you're watching your satellite receiver but decide to watch a DVD...the switch will automatically switch to the DVD signal once you turn on the DVD...once you turn off the DVD it will switch back to the satellite recevier.
